The Usefulness of the Expansion Vessel

The role of the expansion vessel is to separate two hydraulic zones, allowing for proper system adjustment and efficient distribution of flow rates.

To calculate the expansion vessel's capacity, we take into account the heating power of the boiler that will be installed. The hydraulic connection section will be determined by the thermal requirement of each circuit.

Advantages of using the expansion vessel:

  • Limiting the effects of hydraulic disturbances

  • Dividing the required pump head for each zone

  • Complex systems, where the hydraulic parameters of consumers are variable, are much more hydraulically stable (and therefore easier to adjust) when zoning is done with an expansion vessel and zone pumps, compared to using a single pump for the entire circuit. This eliminates the mutual influence of pumps (circuits) connected in parallel. Parallel pumps, especially those with different characteristics, can interact, leading to malfunction.

  • Installation with an expansion vessel ensures complete independence with economic operational advantages.
